Our Design Team

Gramercy Townhouse was designed by the New York–born Cho Shields architect team, now based in Brooklyn. They are a multi-disciplinary architectural firm that specializes in forging connections between individuals and their environments. The 4500 square foot townhouse was designed to showcase the vibrancy of NYC with modern design and décor, and yet maintain its organic connection with the neighborhood.

Owner Sudha Sahai designed the interiors with this same ethos, always keeping what mattered in sight—guest comfort. This is a Passive House, but first and foremost, a luxury long term rental in NYC. Every item in the townhouse—from large furniture pieces like the sofa beds to small items such as our bath amenities—underwent a rigorous selection process.

Characteristics of a Passive House by Cho Shields

A slice of heaven in NYC

A friend and I stayed here for a week. We decided to spend a little more money to have a kitchen and a sweet little terrace to sit on. The apartment was just perfect for us because we weren’t on top of each other in terms of the space; she had the bedroom and I slept on the sofa bed which was very comfortable. It was well appointed in terms of things you need in the kitchen etc. Obviously, one gives up having someone come every morning to make the bed and clean the room, but in my opinion well worth it! My only critique is that it would have been nice to have a few extra hand towels since we were there for a week and only one was provided; luckily I saw the housekeeper and she brought another. Minor detail… Let’s talk area: A real neighborhood; lots of activity close by; great restaurants; markets; coffee/sweet shops, etc. We walked just about everywhere, except when we went uptown, we took the subway. All in all, we were extremely happy with our choice and definitely will come back. A note: we loved the staff that we did meet and we felt very safe in our neighborhood!
